Running routes

When visiting Copenhagen, chances are you'll encounter numerous runners along your way. Despite the hustle and bustle of the city streets, it's safe and easy to go for a run in Copenhagen. Copenhagen is also known for its annual Copenhagen Marathon and the CPH Half, offering opportunities to run through the streets of Copenhagen.

'Søerne' - The Lakes

Just 1.5 km from Danhostel City lies Sankt Jørgens Sø, the first of three lakes known as "The Lakes."

Here, you can easily run along the gravel path that surrounds all three lakes, accompanied by the wildlife of the lakes, such as swans and ducks.

What's great about this route is that the distance can be adjusted. The loop around all lakes is just over 6 km, but if you prefer a shorter run, you can cross one of the four bridges.

Løb, Amager Fælled (Visitcopenhagen)

Amager Fælled – The Green Route

Crossing Langebro and running along the charming Islands Brygge, you'll quickly reach Amager Fælled.

It's a large and beautiful natural area where you can enjoy the green surroundings and fresh air.

Amager Fælled has a trail system that crisscrosses the area, allowing you to easily adjust the route to your desired distance

If you're up for a longer run or fancy using a bike or public transport, Amager beach park is a lovely place to run.

If you want to be right by the water and enjoy the fresh sea breeze, this route is perfect for you. Here, you can run on the beach's concrete paths if you don't feel like running on sand and gravel.

If you're tempted, it's recommended to finish off with a dip in the Øresund

Løb, Frederiksberg Have (Daniel Rasmussen)

While a bit farther from the other routes mentioned, Frederiksberg Have is equally suited for a satisfying run. It's a park that stands out for its aesthetic appeal.

Here, you can jog amidst beautiful green surroundings in the heart of Copenhagen.

If you're up for a longer run, you can also visit Søndermarken, just on the other side of Frederiksberg Palace and Roskildevej.

Official Races

In Copenhagen, there are numerous races throughout the year, but the Copenhagen Marathon and CPH Half are the biggest ones by far.

Copenhagen Marathon

In the spring, typically around early May, the annual Copenhagen Marathon attracts thousands of runners and spectators to the capital for the city's premier running event. Join in and soak up the incredible atmosphere as Copenhagen unites to cheer on the 15,000 runners completing the 42.195 km distance through Copenhagen's neighborhoods.

CPH Half

In the fall, around late September, the Copenhagen Half Marathon takes place, with 27,000 enthusiastic runners tackling the 21.0975 km distance through Copenhagen's streets. The city transforms into a lively street party on this day, with music, cheers, and entertainment along the entire route, ensuring both runners and the many spectators have a fantastic time.
